Treatment of acute decompensation of cirrhosis and acute-on-chronic liver failure
About Course
This course focuses on the clinical management of acute decompensation of cirrhosis and acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF). Through expert-led video lectures, you will examine the natural history of cirrhosis and gain practical, evidence-based guidance on the diagnosis and treatment of its most frequent and severe complications, including ascites, hepatorenal syndrome, gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, and infections.
The course also addresses the specific management of ACLF and the use of prognostic scores to support clinical decision-making, particularly in the context of liver transplantation. Emphasis is placed on early recognition, integrated care, and real-world application to improve outcomes in patients with advanced chronic liver disease.
In this course, you will:
- Understand the natural history of cirrhosis and the mechanisms leading to acute decompensation
- Learn evidence-based medical management of ascites and hepatorenal syndrome
- Review current approaches to the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding in cirrhosis
- Gain practical strategies for the diagnosis and management of hepatic encephalopathy
- Understand how to prevent, recognize, and manage infections in patients with advanced liver disease
- Explore the principles of diagnosis and treatment of acute-on-chronic liver failure
- Learn how to use prognostic scores to guide clinical decisions, including referral and prioritization for liver transplantation
- Strengthen clinical reasoning through a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to complex cirrhosis-related complications
