Biography

I'm a Consultant in Hepatology and the Head of the Liver ICU at the Institute of Metabolic and Digestive Diseases in the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona, Spain.

I hold a degree in Medicine from the University of the Basque Country, Spain. Later on, I got my specialty in Gastroenterology in 1998 at the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona. In 2006, I obtained my PhD from the University of Barcelona.

Currently I'm the associate editor of the Journal of Hepatology and a reviewer for international peer-review journals such as Journal of Hepatology, Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Gut, Liver International and Critical Care Medicine. I'm also also member of the European Foundation for the study of Chronic Liver Failure (EF- CLIF) and the person responsible for clinical trials.

My fields of interest vary from acute-on-chronic liver failure to infections and antibiotic resistance, renal and adrenal insufficiency in cirrhosis, among others.
