Biography

Javier Fernández is a Consultant in Hepatology and the Head of the Liver Intensive Care Unit in the Institute of Metabolic and Digestive Diseases at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Spain. He holds a degree in Medicine from the University of the Basque Country, Spain, and he specialized in Gastroenterology in 1998 at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. In 2006, he obtained his PhD degree by the University of Barcelona, Spain.

Currently, Fernández serves as the Head of Clinical Operation at EF CLIF. He is also an Associate Editor for Journal of Hepatology.

His research interests span acute-on-chronic liver failure, infections and antibiotic resistance, and renal and adrenal insufficiency in cirrhosis.
