Upon completing Module 4, students will be able to:
- Define and explain the rationale for novel and experimental clinical trial designs addressing challenges in efficiency, validity, and ethical conduct compared to traditional randomized controlled trials.
- Describe key innovative design frameworks (umbrella, basket, and platform trials), and evaluate their applications for improving trial efficiency and adaptability.
- Understand and apply advanced methodological concepts to enhance evidence generation, including Bayesian approaches, refined clinical endpoints (ordinal or recurrent outcomes), and causal inference frameworks integrating real-world evidence.
- Assess non- and quasi-experimental designs, including the emulated target trial approach, pharmacoepidemiologic methods, and their implications for studying rare diseases and expanding generalizability beyond traditional randomized controlled trials.
