Study design in clinical research in hepatology

Upon completing Module 5, students will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental principles of biomarker discovery and validation in liver disease.
  • Critically evaluate the performance characteristics of diagnostic biomarkers, including sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values.
  • Apply current knowledge on the use of biomarkers for risk stratification and prognostic modeling in acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) and decompensated cirrhosis.
  • Interpret diagnostic accuracy studies and understand their role in clinical decision-making and personalized medicine.
  • Assess regulatory and methodological considerations in biomarker research and implementation in clinical practice.
