Juan Manuel Díaz, MD, MSc, is a Pre-doctoral Researcher in Translational Research at Hospital Clínic Barcelona and Clinical Research Scientist at the European Foundation for the Study of Chronic Liver Failure (EF CLIF).
His work focuses on decompensated cirrhosis and acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF), including liver transplantation in patients with severe ACLF, integrating clinical care with translational and clinical research. He has experience in international multicenter studies and randomized controlled trials, contributing to protocol implementation, safety evaluation, data quality assurance, and clinical data interpretation. His research focuses on prognostic modeling and biomarker development in advanced liver disease, infections and antimicrobial resistance in cirrhosis, as well as sarcopenia and frailty in critically ill patients, and immunoparalysis in decompensated cirrhosis.
Dr. Díaz is actively involved in postgraduate education and serves as an instructor in the EF CLIF Advanced Training Program, contributing to modules on the prevention and management of infections and randomized controlled studies in hepatology.
