Biography
Urko M. Marigorta is a statistical geneticist and PI of the Integrative Genomics Lab at CIC bioGUNE, in the Basque Country. Trained in human disease genomics, he studies how complex diseases emerge over time, with a particular interest in their natural history and the preclinical stage, where precision medicine approaches may eventually help to become preventive rather than merely reactive. His lab combines omic profiles (genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, single-cell based, etc)to understand disease heterogeneity and treatment response, often through an evolutionary lens, namely to think which mechanisms are conserved, constrained, adaptive or simply tolerated. He also enjoys teaching these ideas and trying to create the occasional “now I see it” moment, all while he is fully aware that multi-omics usually looks much cleaner in the slide than in the actual data!
