Dr. Pierre Tonnerre earned his Ph.D. in Immunology and Immunogenetics from the University of Nantes. He subsequently conducted research at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School on antigen-specific T cell responses during viral infections, followed by postdoctoral training at Institut Pasteur. He now leads the “Cellular Immunity in Cancers and Infections” team at Inserm U1342, Institut de Recherche Saint-Louis, Saint-Louis Hospital in Paris.
A Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow and ATIP-Avenir laureate, Dr. Tonnerre investigates how T cell heterogeneity, differentiation, and functional plasticity shape immune responses in cancer and infectious diseases. His laboratory integrates well-characterized clinical cohorts, innovative experimental models, and state-of-the-art multi-omics approaches to uncover mechanisms of T cell activation and dysfunction. Through strong academic, clinical, and industrial collaborations, his research aims to translate these insights into next-generation immunotherapies and vaccination strategies.
