Biography

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Biology (UPV/EHU, 1992) and a PhD in Molecular Entomology (University of Crete, Greece, 1999) under Prof. Yannis Tselentis, with training in insect taxonomy, molecular biology techniques (isoenzyme analysis, DNA cloning and sequencing, PCR and PCR–RFLP), and molecular characterization of parasites for phylogenetic and epidemiological studies.

From 1999 to 2004, I held two consecutive postdoctoral fellowships on the population genetics of Leishmania insect-vectors, at the Natural History Museum in London and the Institute of Health Carlos III in Madrid, under Dr. Paul D. Ready and Dr. Ricardo Molina.

Since November 2004, I have been responsible for the Platform for Genome Analysis at CIC bioGUNE, leading the development of high-throughput technologies for genome characterization: DNA variants at the whole-genome level, expression of coding and non-coding RNAs, and DNA methylation profiling, mainly applied to biomedical research but extendable to other biological questions.
